Rex Wang

Associate, AB Concept
Rex Wang is a space designer whose foundation in architecture is paired with a deep sensitivity to human emotion and spatial storytelling. Currently an Associate at AB Concept, he focuses on high-end hospitality and residential projects across Asia, where culture, memory, and contemporary aesthetics come together in quiet harmony. After receiving his Master of Science in Advanced Architectural Design from Columbia University, Rex began his career in New York but soon realized that large-scale commercial towers did not resonate with his creative calling. He transitioned from architecture to interior design and relocated to Asia, where he found in AB Concept the ideal platform to refine his voice to root in narrative, context, and emotional resonance. His recent works include the F&B venues at Four Seasons Hotel Suzhou, where he reinterpreted classical garden techniques such as spatial layering and borrowed scenery to create an atmosphere of poetic elegance. In Shangri-La Qiantan’s Presidential Suite in Shanghai, he blended elements of Shikumen heritage with highly adaptive layouts, redefining luxury as something both versatile and deeply cultural. Rex is also the lead designer of the Akira Back restaurant in Hong Kong. Rex believes that true design is not about extravagance, but about creating meaningful experiences that stay with people long after they leave a space. This philosophy earned him a place among the 2024 “40 Under 40” Design Talents, awarded by Perspective Magazine, which celebrates outstanding designers in Asia under the age of 40 who are shaping the future of the built environment. His past accolades include finalist recognition in the Young Architects Competition and a second prize in the Bo Concept Home Design Awards. Rex continues to explore how space can serve as both canvas and companion that doesn’t just frame life, but gently amplifies it. For him, design is more than form and function; it’s a quiet act of being and understand living. An ethos that aligns deeply with AB Concept’s belief that “Design is about being.”
