When presented in 1967 at the Milan Furniture Fair, the seat gained so much acclaim from the public that many walked away from the stand stealing the ones on display. As a result of this unorthodox compliment, the chairs were tied on the stand with a chain. With the plia seat the designer giancarlo piretti has revolutionized the concept of a folding chair and his study on the "3-disk pivot" is considered a stroke of genius. The combination of a steel and polypropylene frame has paved the way for the plia chair that has become a cult object.
